Fellow Mpaninfoo, Greetings! We believe the good old Lord is in control in our affairs. We owe everything to Him, I must say. Below are tit-bits on events of our association. Its been quite a long time, but its always better to be late than never. Our recent reunion in NY was quite well attended but we believe we can do much better in the years to come. Prof. David Yamoah was our guest speaker. We enjoyed a ton of information on the history of our great school; firsthand information, and above all the need for us to pursue higher education for a better tomorrow. All previous executives were maintained. We also gained two executive members in the persons of Ms. Edna Takyi - Secretary and Mr. Robert Henking (Rash) the ambassador to the central region. May I take this opportunity to say that Edna will be calling us every now and then to remind us of our vision - donation, donation and donation towards the assembly hall. After all expenditure, the association had $8000.00 in its coffers of which arrangements are almost complete to send $7000.00 to Ghana to resume work on the assembly hall. During deliberations at the reunion, the executive members agreed to pay $500 each and all others, $300 this year - towards the assembly hall project. This I should say, does not pertain to only those at the meeting; instead all Old Students in the Diaspora. Our brothers and Sisters in Ghana are working to come up with theirs. We know this is a voluntary act, but it is our prayer that all of us will join in to ensure completion of the project in a timely manner. Now, someone may ask, why the assembly hall among other possible minor projects? We did receive a wish list from OPASS some time ago. The list included a school bus, computers, book or the library, etc. To help us make a final decision about what the immediate needs are, the headmaster - Mr. Kyei-Brobbey was contacted. In so doing, it was ascertained that the fundamental problem facing OPASS is that the population has gradually reached numbers that makes it impossible to hold their various gatherings in the dinning hall (like we used to). During such meeting, students are found lingering around without proper supervision. The foundation of the assembly hall has been completed (See photos from OPASS www.opassians.org ). The next stage is to erect the needing pillars , then on to the roof etc, etc. The money involved in such projects are quite astronomical, which calls for all of us to contribute our quota on timely and constant basis, no mater how small. If we are able to erect a pillar or two every month; our hope is - the structure should be ready for dedication during the Golden Jubilee in 2011. Mpaninfoo, lets get the message out to better help OPASS. There are a lot of people out there willing to support this effort. All we need is to get the word out to them -let's do so. Although all efforts are in place to prevent individualism in this movement, let's make this quite interesting by introducing a little competition here. We are going to work to find out:
The best year group in terms of donation (i.e. 1988/90)
Best class
Best House (1, 2, 3, 4)
Best Individual
This is an attempt to get everyone involved. Get your class involved by calling them to join in. Yes, remind them and let's all be part of this. Don't let your group/class/house down. We hate to do this, but to set the stage up -- Dr. Kingsley Lartey (1979/86) is in the lead (individual) with $1500.00 in donations. We will update you regularly on how much comes in and from whom. We are also glad to inform you that there is an award in place meant to reward outstanding old boy or girl every year. This is being sponsored by Kwame and Vivian Anochie. The first award of $200.00 went to Ms. Martha Nyinaku. This was presented to her at the reunion and a plaque from the association was presented to her as well. On behalf of the association, a big thank you goes to Kwame and Vivian for their dedication towards this great course. Let me end by reiterating that we can sympathize with OPASS all we can, but without the necessary action/s it's meaningless. Please let's join hands and make OPASS the EASTERN JEWEL she is. Thanks, Mr Awuah for the update and your wonderful contribution to our great school. I am very excited about the outstanding old boy/girl award and would like to know the criteria for selection. Keep up the good job, pal.
Thanks Mr. Danso and sorry for not getting back to you on time. The outstanding old boy/girl is basically nominated -- any member can nominate any one - based on their efforts towards our goals.... the possibilities, I must say, are endless. Just let members know who and why you think he/she deserves it.
