My OPASS Doreen Onyinah Brobbey (Class of 1989)

My Opass, what happened to you? Why do you look so deserted and desolate as if nobody loves you anymore? Why is your voice fainted and your stars so dim? Why are your beautiful orchard and flowers not showing their true colours?

My Opass, why have all your children abandoned you? Where is Mr. Gyimah (Headmaster), Mrs Toseafa, Mrs. Vanderpuye, Mrs. Adu and Mrs.Teye, Mr. Boakye and Mr. Odoi, Mr. Antwi Darko (may his soul rest in peace) and Adoye and oh least I forget DDT. Opass is crying for help, leadership and directions.

My Opass, you will be 50 years soon and you look like 120 years old with no maintenance. My Opass, why nobody shows you love anymore after what you have done for us, by shaping our lives and destinies (sons and daughters) of Opass.

I came to Opass when I was just 12 years old and believe it, it was not love at first sight. Born and raised in Accra I THOUGHT Opass was a village school. My Opass, I underestimated your touch in my life. I came to the school with no survival skills but with your discipline, you moulded me into a better woman, a person, a wife, a mother and a friend.

I had my first crush, love and heartbreak (broken-heart) all at Opass; I learned to love and care for people of all kinds and made long-life friends. My Opass, I hold a very special place for you in my life. Because of you - My Opass- I carry myself with pride and dignity. With strong educational foundation from my Opass, I can learn with the best in the any college.

My Opass, you made me brave and adoptable. I drunk water from your well that was filled with dead snakes and frogs and now I'm immune to Ebola, I enjoyed gas and kenkey and now I eat all that I make (joke).

Sons and daughters let's leave a legacy to the up-and-coming students to have a great school experience, like the one we had. I still dream about Sunday night church service and my personal favourite song "Life and Light and Joy are found in the presence of the Lord" and also Kokosekyi. Dry bones of My Opass Arise, Arise and Shine again.

The purpose of this poem or whatever it may be called is for all Opassians to reflect the impact Opass has in our respective lives and fall in love with our school again. The school needs great leaders and of course CASH.

Let all start YIBIMA fundraising for our school.
Let's hear of your reflections and impact of Opass in your life.

To be continued

Team,

I am glad to hear from Mr Ohene-Dokyi and Awuah. At least we have a starting point to move on. I suggest we come out with a concrete plan of action to help revive the image and condition of the school.

I know we need MONEY and we know how to generate that wherewithal.

Question: Why is the "headman" stressing on the need to build the assembly hall?
There is an old adage that goes like this [You can not boil the ocean but you can boil a piece of the ocean in a pot] We need to let him know the urgency to repair or refurbish what is broken before starting a new project. [Ironically, it is nice to have a new "vehicle" but how are you going to maintain it]

OPASS is a "beautiful" school and the location and layout is just amazing.Good Stuff. It just needs the basic amenities for now and a long term plan to rejuvenate the rest.

1. I suggest we setup an [account] with one of the telecom companies so that people can text the word (for example) "OPASS" with their cellphone for example $10.00 or more. This amount will reflect on their monthly phonebill. This will attract more people to participate.

2. let's all start one project at a time, then we will conduct a progress feedback report to the entire population (OPASSIANS). So that we can have a complete and accurate assessment of work.

Be a passionate Opassian!!!!!

Please let's hear from you..... We love to hear more from you. Show your support.

Thanks for your support and cooperation,

Yaw Koranteng

Hi Sweet Awero - Edna,

Thanks for the invitation. Is there a slot for me? lol. Am not too keen on setups and protocols.

Well am very passionate about the "well-being" of our school and I will champion the cause through this forum. I think the web is a vital tool to connect all the loose ends.

I will always love OPASS and will never forget the past glory. I had the opportunity to have great mentors like Robert Ampaw Stephen Henking (RASH), Federick Owusu Baffour Awuah - FOBA (may he rest in peace), Yourself (Edna), your brother (Asare Takyi), Mr Gyimah (headmaster) - I couldn't stand him but I do understand why he was so strict and sometimes just straight unwavering. Trust me he is very kind, soft spoken and an attitude for excellence. Just to mention a few.

RASH has been very instrumental in my life, even after all this years he is still "rock solid" in my life. What a great friend and brother.

Edna, you will be wondering who is this guy. I believe your brother Yaw Asare Takyi and Dr Lartey has my point of contact. I will try to call you soon, so please be at ease. Are you still in Houston? Well the family is relocating to San Antonio, TX this summer. Hopefully we will catch up with you and the family.

Take care and be good, don't text and drive big Sister.

Hi Team,

REMINDER: This was posted last year.

I believe everyone is doing an oustanding job. Keep up the good work. I suggest we formulate a plan to help our alma mater with visiting lectures, seminars etc., . This will open up the minds and also motivate our brothers and sisters on some of the many opportunities out there. Let's provide them with the tool to be more effective and successful. There are beaucoup subjects to talk about. Anything!!!!!! (even show or tell events)

Areas:

Nursing/Medicine/Physcian Assistant program etc
Law/Pastoral Studies
Waste/ Recycling Management
IT Platforms
Biomedical/ Clinical Engineering
Administration/Marketing
Project Management etc
Banking etc
Green Energy

I know here are numerous old students out there who would like to do this. Let us talk about this and see what we can do to motivate our brothers and sisters.

No matter what you do, motivation and determination are essential in this competitive world.

Let's talk shop
